GOLINVAUX, Phyllis J. Zwack. (Kentland, IN, Feb. 8, 1929--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 11, 2010). Founder, Camp Albrecht Acres and other humanitarian projects. Golinvaux will be remembered for her tireless efforts in support of the rights of those with special needs. After working as an LPN, she became involved in the Dubuque County Association for Retarded Citizens (the Arc of Dubuque) and was a leader in establishing Area Residential Care and was the founded of Camp Albrecht Acres. She organized the first resident camp program for special needs children in Iowa in 1960 and ran the program until 1974. She was appointed the executive director of the Dubuque County Association for Retarded Citizens Inc. and Executive Director of Albrecht Acres in 1974.
Golinvaux's other service included being vice president of the Board of Directors of the Dubuque County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. She was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Cerebral Palsy Association and the Dubuque County Association for Retarded Citizens. She served as a member of the state and national Association for Retarded Citizens. She received fourteen awards from various service clubs and organizations in recognition of her work.
