Savings bank.

GERMAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK Organized on January 24, 1887, the bank was located on the northwest corner of 13th and Clay (Central) in a building constructed in 1886. In later years this was the location of the WALSH STORE and later was totally renovated by DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST COMPANY. (1)

Officers of the bank in 1895 were Paul TRAUT, president; John Bell, vice-president; and J. M. Werner, cashier. Directors were Paul Traut, Christopher H. BERG, Nicholas GLAB, Peter KLAUER, Alphons MATTHEWS, A. Jaeger, and Anthony F. HEEB.

The 1911-12 Dubuque City Directory and 1913 Dubuque and Dubuque County Directory stated that this business was located at 1301-1315 Clay.

After WORLD WAR I, German Trust and Savings Bank was renamed the UNION TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK and was located in a building on the southeast corner of 14th and Central. (2) The bank was brought to ruin in January 1932 by a run on its deposits.
