Dr. F. Hunter Fuerste is also one of the Midwest's most accomplished musicians.

FUERSTE, F. Hunter. (Dubuque, IA- ). Ophthalmologist. A graduate of DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL and the University of Iowa medical school, Fuerste played trombone for two years with Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians in the late 1970s. In 1977 he played with the band at New York's Waldorf Astoria Hotel on what was to be Lombardo's last nationwide New Year's Eve broadcast.

In June 1991, Fuerste was the musical director of "Show Boat" performed at the GRAND OPERA HOUSE, president-elect of the DUBUQUE ARTS COUNCIL, and played trombone in two local musical groups. The "Dubuque Brass Quintet" performs “sell-out” Christmas concerts annually. His American Vintage Orchestra has been featured at the annual Glenn Miller Festival and on Music Television. He spent more than two years creating “Swing Out! The Big Band Show” which performed sell-out concerts annually in Dubuque as well as being presented in other locations around the Midwest.
