Sharon Fladoos was one of Dubuque's best golfers.

FLADOOS, Sharon. (Dubuque, IA- ). Fladoos began golf at the age of nine with lessons from Howie Atten, the golf pro at the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB. The following year, she won the Dubuque city junior golf title. At the age of eleven, she won the second flight of the Iowa Girls Junior Golf Tournament. (1) At the age of twelve, she advanced to the semi-finals of the Junior when the Junior was match play. When she was thirteen was placed second in the girls' finals. (2)

In 1958 Fladoos won the first of three consecutive Iowa Junior titles and Iowa high school tournaments. (3) She was runner-up in 1958 in the Iowa Women's tournament and won the contest in 1960. She was runner-up in 1958 and 1959 in the Western Junior championship before winning in 1960. The same season she won the Iowa state high school championship, the Iowa Junior, and the Iowa Women's tournaments. (4) In 1961 Fladoos was runner-up in the National Junior. The same year she won the Women's State championship for the second consecutive year. In August 1961, Fladoos qualified for the Women's Western Amateur tournament held in Pasadena, California. Eliminated by the defending champion, Fladoos qualified the following week in a four-way tie for runner-up medalist in the Trans--Miss tournament in Eugene, Oregon. (5)

Fladoos was inducted into the first Dubuque Senior High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Iowa Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008. (6)
