Active in his synagogue, Temple Beth El, he helped raise the money to build the structure at 475 W. Locust. His vast knowledge of the synagogue membership, it was reported, turned the reading of names of deceased members during the High Holy Days into a well-attended event. He was known locally for his fascination with the game of tennis which he played often and his reliance on personal responsibility in business.
