FAIRBANKS, Josiah
FAIRBANKS, Josiah. (Harvard, MA, July 17, 1818--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 21, 1910). Shipper and baker. Fairbanks came to Dubuque in 1856. One of his first shipping contracts called for transporting from Illinois material used in the construction of the Dubuque and Sioux City railroad.
Several years later, Fairbanks entered the baking business. His company, this area's first steam cracker bakery, used the first rotary ovens west of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. Fairbanks was succeeded in this business by Edwin W. ALBEE.
