DUBUQUE SOCCER ALLIANCE. In June 1992 a group of Dubuque citizens announced they would ask the Dubuque Community school board to consider allowing the development of a soccer complex on land presently rented to a farmer. Dr. Howard PIGG, superintendent of schools, said he would support the idea if the district could retain the right to build a school on the site if needed. He remarked that only part of the land located at the intersection of the Northwest Arterial and Kennedy Road would be suitable for soccer fields, but that six to ten could be constructed there. Susie Wells, commissioner of the American Youth Soccer Organization in Dubuque reported that 2,000 youngsters were then playing on 151 teams. (1)

In May 1993, the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT agreed to lease the group 54 acres of property west of the Northwest Arterial and Kennedy Road for ten years at $1.00 per year. The District retained the right to twelve acres, in the event it needed to construct a school, and first priority to use the fields. Work began on the field in the fall of 1993.
