Founded in 2002 as a joint ministry of St. Paul and Our Redeemer Lutheran churches, congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS), the school opened for the 2003-2004 school year. The LCMS educational system, according to school information, in 2008 operated more than 2,500 schools nationwide making it the third largest educational system in the United States. Located in 2008 at 2145 John F. Kennedy Road, the Dubuque Lutheran School offered a complete kindergarten through fifth grade academic program. The courses included language arts, math, science, social studies, Spanish, religion, physical education, health, art, computer skills, and music. The program was accredited by the state of Iowa.
