CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE. A Nazarene mission began operations in Dubuque in 1944. The 1945 Dubuque City Directory offered a listing at 293 Pear. A hall was obtained at 132 West 11th Street and in August 1947, Reverend and Mrs. Jack Hamilton held a revival. At the close of the meeting, the District Superintendent of the Iowa District organized the first Church of the Nazarene with eight charter members.

Church services were continued in the hall until, under the ministry of Reverend Walter Attig, a site was purchased at 1195 Prysi Street. Construction of a church began in 1953 with much of the work donated by members. The completed red brick building contained the nursery, sanctuary, and Sunday school rooms. Part of the building, dedicated on May 9, 1954, was used as a parsonage.

The 1987 through 2014 Dubuque City Directory listed 1195 Prysi.
