CARPENTER, William. (Dubuque, IA-- ). Beginning his interest in weight lifting in the fourth grade, Carpenter was able to bench press over 300 pounds by the time he reached high school. Competing professionally in 1994, he was ranked No. 1 in the world in the junior division for ages 23 and under by Powerlifting USA magazine.

On April 27, 1997, Carpenter was crowned a world champion at the World Powerlifting Association Championships. He won the 220-pound weight class bench press title performing a lift of 520 pounds. He accomplished an 800 pound bench press at an American Powerlifting Federation (APF) championship in Lake George, NY on April 17, 2007.

In 2003 Carpenter was interviewed for Body Building.com. At that time he was a personal trainer and a fitness director at JOHN DEERE DUBUQUE WORKS. He reported that in the 220 pound class his best lift was 630 pounds and that he had three national and three world titles. In 2005 Carpenter served as the Iowa president of the American Powerlifting Federation. He was also president/CEO of the United Powerlifting Association, LLC Iowa.
