CARLISLE COMMUNICATIONS. Provider of pre-printing services. Founded in 1978 by John B. CARLISLE, a former production division director for the WILLIAM C. BROWN COMPANY, the company began with five employees. By 1987 the workforce had grown to seventy. About 80 percent of its employees were full-time. By providing pre-print services to major magazines and book publishers, Carlisle Communication reported an annual growth of 30 percent from 1984 to 1987.

In 1987 the company announced its intention to move from its plant at 2530 Kerper Blvd. to a new facility in one of the INDUSTRIAL PARKS on the western edge of the city. The new building at 4242 Chavenelle Drive more than doubled the work area at a cost estimated to be $900,000.

In 2013 S4Carlisle (formerly Carlisle Publishing Services Inc.) had its corporate headquarters in Kottivakkam, Chennai, India and its building on the west side of Dubuque had become the home of the DUBUQUE REGIONAL HUMANE SOCIETY.
