CAFFALL, Charles J. (Richmansworth, England, Mar. 31, 1825--Jennings, LA, Aug. 5, 1909). Caffall grew up outside London, England, as the apprentice of an auctioneer and timber surveyor. He immigrated to the United States in 1852.

Soon after moving to Dubuque the same year, Caffall formed Cox, Caffall and Company, a prominent auction house in eastern Iowa. Among their largest sales were the lands along the line of the DUBUQUE AND SIOUX CITY RAILROAD.
