BUTT, John. (Mecklenburg, Germany, Apr. 30, 1849--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 6, 1926). John Butt's parents came to Dubuque in 1852 and his father opened the company bearing the family name in 1853. John, the oldest son, worked with his father and learned the trade. When his father died, John Butt and his brothers, Ernest, William and Helmuth carried on the business.
