BURDEN]], came to the United States in 1833 and settled in western New York for over twenty years while working in mercantile business. (1) His partnership with George March continued until the death of March in 1830. By that time, the firm of Burden, March & Ware had made Burden wealthy. In the town of Oakfield, New York he also formed an attachment for the Methodist Church that he would maintain through life. (2) | |||
He came west to Iowa in 1852 and visited Dubuque where he moved the following year. He entered the real estate business with [[RICHARDS, Benjamin Billings|Benjamin Billings RICHARDS]], whom he had met in the East, in the firm of Taylor, Richards and Burden. In 1856 they established a bank at Winona. He, however, continued his interest in banking in Dubuque and at the time of his death served as a director of [[FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE]] and the [[DUBUQUE NATIONAL BANK]]. (3) | |||
