BURCH, James Merrill. (Necedah, WI, Jan. 18, 1861--Dubuque, IA, June 30, 1927). Burch, the son of George Benjamin BURCH, graduated from Harvard University in 1883 and returned to Necedah where he served a term as mayor in 1899. (1) He became credit manager of FARLEY AND LOETSCHER MANUFACTURING COMPANY in 1900 and was later promoted to treasurer and then president. He held this office the remainder of his life. (2)

Burch was also president of Loetscher-Burch Manufacturing Company in Des Moines, president of Roberts Sash and Door in Chicago, vice-president of the Consolidated National Bank, treasurer of the KEY CITY GAS COMPANY, director of the MIDWEST LUMBER COMPANY in Dubuque, and vice-president of Farley-Loetscher Company in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. (3)

In addition to his business activities, Burch served as president of the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, treasurer of FINLEY HOSPITAL (THE), trustee for the LINWOOD CEMETERY Association, member of the advisory board of the MOUNT PLEASANT HOME, and treasurer of the Dubuque Chapter of the American Red Cross.
