BROWN, George. (Dubuque, IA, Oct. 24, 1923--Dubuque, IA, Sept. 29, 1990). An insurance agent for many years, Brown unseated long-time incumbent Harold P. MELOY in 1977 by defeating him in both the Democratic primary and the general election in 1976.

Ill health forced him to resign in early 1978, and he was replaced by Terrence HIRSCH.
