BREITBACH, Thomas William. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 30, 1924--Dubuque, IA, 2011). Breitbach was elected county treasurer in 1974 when he succeeded the retiring Leo MEUSER. He had previously served as an insurance agent for Prudential for eighteen years. In addition to his elective office, Breitbach was a board member of the DUBUQUE BOYS' CLUB. He officiated basketball, baseball, and football games in the tri-state area for many years and was an inductee as a board member of the DUBUQUE COUNTY BASEBALL HALL OF FAME.

Although Breitbach recommended the appointment of his first deputy Eric STIERMAN to succeed him when he retired on June 30, 1988, the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors selected former state senator, Robert M. CARR.
