BAKER, Francis McNear

BAKER, Frances McNear. (Wiscasset, ME, Aug. 30, 1839--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 25, 1917). The first organizational meeting to plan MOUNT PLEASANT HOME was held in her residence near First Congregational Church on 10th Street. She was a charter member of the board of directors of Mount Pleasant Home and held the position of corresponding secretary for forty years.

As a member of FIRST CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, Baker served twenty-five years as the supervisor of the primary department of the church school. She deeded her property to the church which used it for the construction of its modern educational wing.
