BAEHLER, John. (Switzerland, Sept. 16, 1844--May 8, 1912). Baehler's parents came to the United States in 1854 and settled immediately in Swiss Valley south of the city of Dubuque. When he was fifteen, he began working in the store of John Klein and remained there for nine years.

In 1874 he joined Stahlman, Reed & Co. at 640 Main Street as a clerk. In 1879 he became one of the management when the company was the largest retail grocery store in Dubuque.
