B.O.L.D. (Blind Outdoor Leisure Development). B.O.L.D. was founded in 1969 by a blind skier in Aspen, Colorado, to teach the joy of skiing to those without sight. SUNDOWN MOUNTAIN instructors began teaching the blind to ski in 1974 through the efforts of Katie Goetz, teacher-consultant for the visually impaired. Goetz received special training in the instruction of blind skiers in Milwaukee and taught five students her first year.

By 1976 Sundown had its own B.O.L.D. chapter through the financial help of the Sundown management, Dubuque Lions Club, and Walter Krawczuk's sixth-grade class at FULTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL where money was raised by collecting aluminum cans.
