ANTAYA, Josette. (Unknown-Prairie du Chien, WI, Nov. 22, 1818). Antaya was one of two servants of Julien DUBUQUE while he lived near his LEAD mines along the MISSISSIPPI RIVER.

Upon Dubuque's death, auditors suggested on May 31, 1814, that Antaya be paid first and in full the $498.20 owed her. Successful suit against this and other payments delayed settlement of the estate for seven years. She eventually received 68.5 cents on the dollar or a total of $424.63.
